A gun-wielding would-be robber suffered the agony of de-feet this week when a New York convenience store owner used footwear to shoo him away.

The incident, which was captured on surveillance video, occurred at a Citgo station in Staatsburg, New York, on Tuesday.

The store owner, 58-year-old Amrik Singh, told police he was working behind the counter when a masked man with a shotgun ran into the store and demanded money.

Singh, a married father of two, initially complied and began filling a bag with cash from the register. But when the crook came closer to try and grab the change out of the register tray, Singh decided to get a leg up over him.

"Something [inside told me] what to do," Singh told the Poughkeepsie Journal .

With that, the mild-mannered gas station owner removed one of his slippers and flung it at the suspect, striking him near the face. As the suspect leveled his gun on Singh, the store owner charged him and forced him out of the store.

Security footage from outside of the service station shows a shoeless Singh chasing the gunman. Once out of the camera's view, the gunman allegedly fired his weapon at Singh's feet.

"I fell down," Singh told New York's WABC-TV . "He didn't get me, but he did shoot."

Singh suffered minor scrapes and bruises from the fall, but was not seriously injured. The would-be robber, meanwhile, left empty-handed.

"I figured I'm not scared," Singh told the Poughkeepsie Journal. "I don't know what happened, but nothing scared for me."

State police are hoping the surveillance video, which they have uploaded to YouTube , will help generate leads in the case.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build. Police said the suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle with orange New York plates.
