Bishop T.D. Jakes is bringing his signature words of wisdom to daytime television with the premiere of The T.D. Jakes Show .

The hour-long syndicated talk show, which premieres on Sept. 12 in various U.S. markets and Sept. 19 on the OWN Network , will feature real personal stories and conversations with celebrity and non-celebrity guests along with empowering advice from Jakes.

During a visit to AOLs Build series on Thursday, Jakes discussed an array of topics, including Oprah Winfreys advice on the key to excelling in daytime television.

She said something that I really believed in, but she directed it towards this business that it is important that you have talent, he said. Its very important that you have the kinds of talent that necessitates a daytime audience. But she said, whats equally as important is that you have a team to surround that talent, to enhance it, to put it in a perspective that it can be appreciated if you dont surround yourself with the kind of team that accessorizes that talent you can die with your talent unrealized.

The New York Times best-selling author went on to add that Winfrey advised him to have equally talented teams around him, who use their gifts not to compete with you, but to complete the mission of what youre trying to do.

He also shared that race is among the list of pressing issues in America that he will cover on the show, which Jakes said he has opted for a unique approach to discuss the topic.

One of the first ways were gonna approach it is dealing with couples who are interracially engaged or have adopted outside of their race, or married outside of their religion and figure out how do you get along, he said.

What our country really needs to learn is how to get along with people we might disagree with. You dont have to have synergy over every ideology in order to get together. If we can as a country, can focus on what unites us, rather than what divides us we can move beyond bickering.
