GOP Rep. Tim Burchett Defends Trump With Every Excuse Under The Sun

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) tried everything to explain away Donald Trump s condemned weekend rally claim that immigrants are poisoning the blood of America during an interview with CNN s Jim Acosta on Sunday.

Burchett initially acknowledged the criticism that Trumps comments were reminiscent of something Adolf Hitler said in his book Mein Kampf, where the Nazi leader wrote: All great cultures of the past perished only because the originally creative race died out from blood poisoning.

You know, I have one rule in my office. It says you never compare anything to the Holocaust or Hitler except the Holocaust or Hitler, because of the horrendous nature of that time period, Burchett said.

After noting how President Joe Biden s campaign has likened Trumps remarks to Hitler, Acosta asked Burchett if the former president should stop.

Well, any kind of comparison to Mein Kampf I think is pretty horrendous actually, he replied. I wasnt there. I didnt hear what he said. Honestly, this is about the first Ive heard of it because I just dont usually follow the national media maybe as well as I should.

Although Burchett admitted Trumps choice of words were extreme for me completely, he said that he would still support Trump if he wins the nomination. He also continued to defend Trump, saying that his language was campaign bravado and appearing to suggest it was because Trump is from New York.

As you well know, Im from east Tennessee and we dont usually talk like that, and hes from New York and thats the way folks hes Trump being Trump, Burchett said. Its campaign bravado. You get up onstage, youre feeding off the audience and you just let it rip. Thats exactly what he does and frankly, thats why a lot of people like him.
