Sex experts agree: it takes a little advanced planning to have the best possible threesome.

Speaking with HuffPost Live on Monday, sex writer and Dear TMI-ary author Mandy Stadtmiller shared the importance of all three partners discussing the logistics of the tryst beforehand so as to avoid one of "the biggest mistakes that can be made": overstaying one's welcome.

"A lot of times, if it hasn't been discussed and it's over, the female might be suddenly -- if it's two women and one man -- the woman might be experiencing sudden feelings of jealousy that she didn't expect," Stadtmiller explained. "It kind of turns into a little debacle."

Stadtmiller also suggests consulting with Healthvana , a new app where users can share their sexual history. And, of course, participants should create "boundaries, and respect those."

Sex and relationship expert Dr. Emily Morse agreed.

"It's like a dance," she said. "When you're in the moment, you're hoping it's all going to flow together, [but] you have to be mindful."
