Trisha Paytas is an influencer who has been successful on multiple social media platforms, including YouTube and hosting her podcast, "Just Trish."
And, recently, she sat down with Rainn Wilson on his "Soul Boom" podcast to talk more deeply about her life and fame.
One moment from the podcast that has a lot of people talking is when Trisha opened up about a psychotic break she had in September of 2021. "I went on Twitter, it wasn't even YouTube, and I was screaming, sobbing, like I couldn't control myself I couldn't breathe. Just like shouting at people to leave me alone," she shared.
Right away, Rainn interrupts her, saying, "Let me just pause you right there. What is it about you...and I'm trying to really understand this. 'I'm so activated, I'm so triggered, I'm so angry, I'm so overwhelmed, I'm about to just lose my shit, I'm gonna have a psychotic break. But I gotta log in and hit live stream and put it on the tripod and make sure my light is on. Now I'm going to have the psychotic break.' What's the deal with that, though? What is that impulse? Is it 'cause you're getting that reward from doing it? The more you have nervous breakdowns online, then the money truck backs up?"
Trisha also shared that she has borderline personality disorder. "I have trouble regulating my emotions. I thought relationships were more intense than they were. I would have these fantasies, but also, like, I would disassociate at the same time. So there was delusion, disassociation, and a lot happening," she explained.
At another point in the interview, Rainn also tells Trisha, "Three years without a gigantic online breakdown...feel free to have one here, though!"
Over the past few days, people have started resharing clips from the podcast on TikTok, saying Rainn was condescending to Trish.
And others, like TikToker cootyqueen13 who has garnered over 600,000 views and a response from Trisha are sharing their thoughts: "Everything she [Trish] was saying and sharing, there were so many moments where he would pause her and mock her for posting it online."
Some users have even gone viral with their skits reenacting the interview, like @pogsyy whose video has over a million views.
In general, people are pointing out how celebrities experience fame in a totally different way than influencers.
And a lot of people feel celebrities lack authenticity.
There were more than a few moments that people say were out of touch and disingenuous.
However, despite the uncomfortable moments, Trisha was applauded for how she handled the interview overall.
