Virginia Journalists Killed On Live TV Remembered One Year Later

A Roanoke news station broadcast a heartwarming tribute on the one-year anniversary of the deaths of two journalists who were shot and killed on live TV.

On Aug. 26, 2015 , WDBJ reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were in the middle of a live news story in Virginia when they were shot multiple times by a former co-worker. Parker and Ward died at the scene.

On Friday, the WDBJ morning anchors paid tribute to Parker and Ward, sharing their sorrow followed by a string of silly and fun photos of the two.

Theres been some healing, but there will never be complete healing, anchor Kimberly McBroom said.

The suspected shooter was identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, a former WDBJ reporter who went by Bryce Williams on air. He fled the scene and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound hours later.

The station has created a memorial outside its building to remember Parker and Ward.

Shortly after the murders, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) called for tougher gun laws.

Last September, McAuliffe re-upped his support for background checks on firearms purchasers and blamed the state legislature for failing to pass tighter gun control measures.
