German Chancellor Angela Merkel was born a decade after D-Day. Today, Germany is a staunch U.S. ally and member of the European Union .

Angela Merkel was never a Nazi, never a Nazi sympathizer, and she never called neo-Nazis "very fine people." So, why would she feel awkward?
