Hundreds of anti-tax protesters have entered Kenya’s Parliament and part of the building is on fire.
The head of the Kenya Medical Association tells Al Jazeera that 13 people have been killed, 12 of them in Nairobi, after police fired at protesters.
Protests and clashes also took place in several other cities and towns across the country.
Parliament approved the finance bill despite the protests. It is now expected to be presented to President William Ruto to sign it into law.
In his first comments on Tuesday’s protests, Ruto says that “criminals” hijacked the demonstrations, and backs the police.
