Can Poonam Sinha Defeat Rajnath Singh In Lucknow?

Sinha, who is making her electoral debut, is a Samajwadi Party candidate.

Just days after joining the Samajwadi Party , Poonam Sinha was given a party ticket to contest from the Lucknow  Lok Sabha constituency.  She contesting against Union minister and BJP candidate Rajnath Singh in 2019 elections

Making her electoral debut, Poonam Sinha is confident of a win. She said that the “hope for change” made her join politics, according to The Indian Express . Her first priority, as an MP, would be women and their issues and environment, she told the newspaper.

Shatrughan Sinha, who recently quit the BJP and joined the Congress, ruffled some feathers by joining her at her roadshow ahead of filing nomination on 18 April. She was also accompanied by Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav. 

Poonam Sinha dismissed the controversy and said that he did not campaign for her. “He simply accompanied me when I went to file my nomination papers and that is something that a husband is allowed to do,” she was quoted as saying by IANS .

While Singh is seeking re-election from Lucknow, Congress has named Pramod Krishnan, a veteran seer-turned-politician, as its candidate for the seat. 

Lucknow will go to polls on 6 May, the fifth phase of 2019 polls.

Sinha also has the highest assets among the candidates for the fifth phase of elections. According to a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), she has declared assets of over Rs 193 crore.
