Kirron Kher Banks On 'Modi Wave' For A Second Term From Chandigarh

She is pitted against Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal and AAPs Harmohan Dhawan.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again fielded Kirron Kher from Chandigarh , where she is pitted against Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal and AAP’s Harmohan Dhawan.

There was speculation earlier that the BJP would opt for a completely new face from this seat. According to Hindustan Times , she was given a nod by the party leadership because of her “clean image”, “involvement in local issues” and “satisfactory performance as a first time MP”

Kher has said that she is banking on the “Modi wave” and her work as an MP from Chandigarh to sail through the contest and win the seat for a second consecutive term.

She has blamed Congress’ Bansal, a four-time MP, for doing “nothing” for the city and promised to bring it to the top position in cleanliness and sanitation.

Bansal, on the other hand, has blamed Kher for a drop in the city’s ranking from third to 20th spot in Swachh Survekshan 2019.

“What has he done for the city? Compare five years of my performance and his 15 years. He did nothing... He does not have any intention to work,” Kher claimed.

“I have a clean image and on the other hand, the entire country knows his image. It is my city and my hometown. I have done a lot of work here...I have been a vocal MP. I did not act in films for five years,” she told PTI

Kher has, however, remained a judge on the TV show India’s Got Talent since 2009.

Actor Anupam Kher has been campaigning for Kher and also accompanied her to file nomination papers.

Kher, in 2014 , won from Chandigarh seat by defeating Bansal with a margin of 69,642 votes. AAP’s Gul Panag  remained at the third slot.

Polling to Chandigarh parliamentary constituency will take place on 19 May.
