Pakistan To Downgrade Diplomatic Ties With India, Suspend Bilateral Trade

Pakistan said on Wednesday that it will “downgrade” diplomatic relations and suspend bilateral trade with India after the Narendra Modi government decided to nullify Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.

Pakistan’s decision came after a meeting of the National Security Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan . 

The NSC decided to review “bilateral arrangements” with India while taking the matter to the United Nations, including the Security Council, a statement issued by the PM Office said, reported PTI.

“Our ambassadors will no longer be in New Delhi and their counterparts here will also be sent back,” Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told ARY News, according to Dawn .

Khan had on Tuesday expressed apprehension that Pulwama-like attacks can follow the revocation of the special status for Jammu and Kashmir.

“This will be a war that no one will win and the implications will be global,” he had warned while addressing a rare joint sitting of Parliament that was convened to discuss the Kashmir situation.

Khan had said that his government would approach the world leaders and apprise them of situation in Kashmir.

“We will fight it at every forum including the UN Security Council,” he had said, adding that Pakistan also plans to take the matter to the International Court of Justice.
