New 'Petta' Promo Drops Hours Before Rajinikanth's Pongal Release

Rajinikanths Pongal release is facing off against Ajiths 'Viswasam'.

Less than 24 hours before Rajinikanth ’s much-awaited Petta  releases on Thursday, Sun Pictures released yet another promo for the movie.

Set to Petta Paraak, the peppy number composed by music director Anirudh Ravichander, the promo rejigs scenes from the film’s trailer to announce Thalaiva’s arrival.

Rajinikanth’s Pongal release is facing off against Ajith’s Viswasam. It’s the first time in 13 years another film is clashing with Rajinikanth’s film, according to Firstpost , and theatre owners are worried that the two mega movies will eat into each other’s collections.

In an interview with The NewsMinute , director Karthik Subbaraj said the film would bring back Rajinikanth’s “mass appeal”.

“Kaala and Kabali are both good films but the fans probably missed his ‘larger than life mass appeal’. Petta film will bring that back,” he said.

The film also stars Trisha, Simran, Vijay Sethupathi and Bobby Simhaa. Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui is making his debut in South Indian films with Petta.

The film is facing difficulty getting screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where three Telugu films are due to release over the weekend. It is unclear how many threatres Petta will get in these states.
