Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan was arrested on his way to Hathras.
The Supreme Court said that the CBI will approach the Allahabad High Court with status reports.
The court had on Friday dismissed an application filed by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists seeking permit for them and a lawyer to meet Kappan,
Mohammad Azimuddin Malik and Obaid Imtiazyul Haque were given notices of termination on Tuesday.
Lawyer Seema Kushwaha, who is representing the Dalit woman's family, said the court pulled up authorities over midnight cremation.
The family of the Dalit woman, who died last month, left from Hathras to Lucknow amid tight security on Monday morning, accompanied by SDM Anjali Gangwar.
CBI Spokesperson said the case has been registered on the request of Uttar Pradesh government and further notification from Centre.
