Carla Gardina Pestana

Carla Gardina Pestana works at UCLA. She teaches and writes on religion and empire especially for the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Her new book, with the Belknap imprint of Harvard University Press, is THE ENGLISH CONQUEST OF JAMAICA: OLIVER CROMWELL'S BID FOR EMPIRE. Before coming to UCLA in 2012, she taught at the Ohio State University, Miami University (Ohio), and Canterbury University (New Zealand). She writes books and articles for an academic audience, including THE ENGLISH ATLANTIC IN AN AGE OF REVOLUTION, 1640-1661; QUAKERS AND BAPTISTS IN COLONIAL MASSACHUSETTS; and PROTESTANT EMPIRE: RELIGION AND THE MAKING OF THE BRITISH ATLANTIC WORLD. For Huffington she writes on religion and politics, especially how current events relate to the past.
