Public school teacher, education activist, PhD

Mercedes K. Schneider, Ph.D., is a career teacher. A Louisiana native, Schneider holds degrees in secondary education, English and German (B.S., LSU, 1991), guidance and counseling (M.Ed., West Georgia, 1998), and applied statistics and research (Ph.D., Northern Colorado, 2002). Schneider is the author of A Chronicle of Echoes: Whos Who in the Implosion of American Public Education (Information Age, April 2014), an encyclopedic expose on individuals and organizations exploiting public education in the name of reform. She also has a second book, The Common Core Dilemma: Who Owns Our Schools? (TC Press, June 2015), on the history, development, and promotion of the Common Core, and a third book in press, School Choice: The End of Public Education? (TC Press, July 2016), detailing the history of charters and vouchers and confronting problems associated with choice, including no excuses discipline and mishandling of taxpayer dollars.
