Turkey expert and Kurdistan correspondent

Frderike Geerdink is a Turkey expert and Kurdistan correspondent. Until Sept. 2015, she was the only foreign journalist based in Diyarbakir, the biggest Kurdish city in the southeast of Turkey. She was arrested while reporting on the war between the PKK and the Turkish army, jailed for three nights and then expelled. She continues to report about Kurds, but now from Europe and from Syrian and Iraqi Kurdistan. She intends to return to Diyarbakir. Geerdink, a journalist with 25 years of experience, was based in Turkey since 2006 and in Diyarbakir since 2012. She writes and makes radio for a wide range of Dutch and English language media.
