Marion Leary

Director of Innovation Research, Center for Resuscitation Science; Innovation Specialist & Course Director, Penn Nursing; Instructor, Penn Master of Public Health

Marion Leary is the Director of Innovation Research for the Center for Resuscitation Science at the University of Pennsylvania, Innovation Specialist and Course Director for the University of Pennsylvania's School of Nursing and an Instructor in the Penn Master of Public Health program. Ms. Leary focuses her research, education and clinical care on Cardiac Arrest, CPR quality and Therapeutic Hypothermia. Ms. Leary's goal is to incorporate innovation into the work that is performed in these areas including Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, wearables, mHealth and other digital applications. Ms. Leary is also a consultant with the Penn Medicine Social Media and Health Innovation Lab. Ms. Leary completed her master's degree in nursing at Penn, in health leadership and a master's degree in public health at Penn. Ms. Leary is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Public Health Initiatives at Penn.Ms. Leary has established herself as a nursing leader in the field of CPR quality and post-cardiac arrest, resuscitation care. She is an international Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and serves on the American Heart Association (AHA) Cardiovascular Nursing subcommittee and also the AHA Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science subcommittee. She has participated in the 2010 resuscitation guidelines and is participating in the upcoming 2015 resuscitation guidelines. Additionally, she is the co-director of the Hypothermia and Resuscitation Training (HART) Institute at Penn.Ms. Leary is a contributor to the Huffington Post and is the host of STEAMrollrs, a segment of the STEM Everyday Podcast featuring women who are paving the way in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). She is also on the board of Start Talking Science a free public event increase the public awareness of and interest in cutting-edge, local research. Recently Ms. Leary founded ImmERge Labs which uses augmented and virtual reality to improve emergency response training and education.Previously, Ms. Leary founded Sink or Swim Philadelphia (2011-2015), a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission was to assist people who were uninsured or underinsured raise funds to pay for medical expenses using social media and medical crowd-funding. Ms. Leary was also a co-founder of Resuscor, LLC (2012-2015) a Penn UPstart company focusing on cardiac arrest and resuscitation science medical education, innovation and technology.
