Mary Jo Kilroy

Former Member of Congress from Ohio, community activist and lawyer

Mary Jo Kilroy was part of the historic 111th Congress, and is proud of her votes for the Affordable Care Act, and her work on the Financial Services Committee and the House/Senate Conference Committee on Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank). Since losing her seat in 2010, she has been active in Columbus, Ohio on issues like health care, climate change, women's and labor rights as well as practicing law. Prior to her service in Congress, she was a Franklin County Commissioner for 8 years, and served two terms on the Columbus Board of Education. She is married to Bob Handelman, and they have two grown daughters. Always a dog lover, Mary Jo also rescues dogs at risk of euthanasia at shelters, and her household currently includes her own two senior dogs, and two lovable and adoptable foster dogs.
