Steven Ing is reframing an important conversation in society one about the intelligent management of human sexuality. He is a sought-after trainer, speaker and therapist, bringing nearly three decades of experience to his audiences and clients. His critically acclaimed book, We're All Like This" (2015, Giant Publishing), is used as a text in Human Sexuality classes in university classrooms. His frank, accessible and compassionate demeanor has earned him a wide following whether in his HuffPost contributions, Reno Gazette-Journal columns or his speaking engagements. He has trained parents about having the sex talk (or rather, talks) with their kids, HR professionals about sexual harassment, advertisers and marketers about using sex in advertising, law enforcement about sex offenders and more. Like most counselors, Ing came to the counseling profession because of tremendous personal pain. His father had led a life of violent crime, and he was ultimately shot and killed by Reno police officers when Steven was 12. And he points to this single event as inspiring a ripple effect that led to his career: After losing his father at a young age to such a violent death, he became fascinated with the link between father and son. He then developed a niche working with men, where he discovered their primary issues pertained to violence and sex. And because of these conversations with mostly violent men, he began to see a common undercurrent across most of his clients: the mismanagement of human sexuality. And now, he hopes to bring this understanding honed through his practice to inspire a societal discussion about emotionally intelligent human sexuality, helping us all enjoy healthier, more fulfilling lives.
