Dr. Zainab Chaudry is Spokeswoman and Maryland Outreach Manager for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization. She serves on the board of Interfaith Action for Human Rights, and as it's liaison to Shoulder-to-Shoulder - an interfaith initiative formed to counter anti-Muslim sentiment in America.She is on the task force of Bilal Initiative - an initiative designed to expand conversations around building a multiracial, multigenerational, and women-friendly society. Dr. Chaudry is the first known Muslim to be appointed to the Maryland State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights - an independent, bipartisan agency established by Congress in 1957 and charged with advising the President and Congress on civil rights matters.She is a Fellow of the American Muslim Civic Leadership Institute, and graduated from the Maryland Public Policy Conflict Resolution Fellows Program at the University Of Maryland Carey School Of Law. She was invited by the White House to attend President Barack Obama's first U.S. mosque visit at the Islamic Society of Baltimore.Dr. Chaudry was a Nominated Changemaker at the White House Summit on the United State of Women, and she was recognized in 2016 as the Baltimore Sun's '25 Women to Watch.' She has been appointed as 'Ambassador for Peace' by a UN Partner Organization, and has received recognition from the Baltimore City State's Attorney's office for supporting underprivileged communities.Dr. Chaudry is a member of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, a Jewish-Muslim interfaith dialogue group for women. She has been recognized by the Governor of Maryland for organizing the state's first Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium, and has been awarded the Governor's Service Award for her work in interfaith communities across Maryland.She regularly comments on social justice issues and the American Muslim perspective on national and global affairs. She has appeared or been quoted in international and national media outlets including TIME, CNN, MSNBS, The Guardian, New York Times, Washington Post, Al-Jazeera, BBC, Reuters, AP, VICE, and others. She was born and raised in Maryland, where she currently resides.
