Theres indestructible goodness and immense possibility within us all.

Thats the point of creating a plan to make 2017 your best year yet. Its not just goal-setting, but a far deeper experience of connecting with your desire to manifest more of who you really are, filled with goodness and possibility.

Inside each of us is a deep well of wisdom that is underutilized because we havent learned to tap into it in a consistent and inspiring way.

Popular podcaster, speaker and author John OLeary believes in the Best Year Yet system.

Almost a decade ago I read Jinnys book Your Best Year Yet and it changed my life. At the time I was struggling in real estate development and had not yet cracked into my speaking business. A friend recommended this book and I read it on the front side of the new year. Rather than quickly flipping through, I treated it as a workbook. I took notes, answered her questions and it resulted in a single-page plan to attack the year. That plan led me to great success.

Recently I had the honor of being the guest on Johns first 2017 podcast when he asked me to tell people how to make a plan for 2017 ~ and as a result have them feel excited and confident about the year ahead.

Please set aside your doubts and fears about yourself and your chances of success and take the 10 steps I describe here. Notice each step is a question, which you ask of your inner guide, remembering Socrates reminder:

An unexamined life is not worth living.

1. What Did I Accomplish? Its too easy to be negative and self-critical. Take time to answer this question and write down whatever your inner voice says. No editing. Keep going until no further achievements occur to you; this step takes about 5 minutes, and youll be on your way.

2. What Were My Biggest Disappointments? Tell the truth. How did you disappoint yourself and others? What did others do to disappoint you? And as you do, let the disappointments go and stop letting them identify who you are.

3. What have I learned? We have lessons to learn, and we know what they are when we stop to think about it. Look at your accomplishments and think about how you behaved to achieve them. Next look at your disappointments and come up with advice you have for yourself so that youll do better next time. Create your responses as Guidelines ~ two to four words telling you how to behave so that 2017 is your best year yet. For example, here are mine for last year: Enjoy life. Keep my promises. Be present and positive.

4. How do I limit myself and how can I stop? This is the most important question because here you discover the limiting belief or paradigm thats keeping you from tapping into your wisdom. In making my 2017 plan mine was Its too late for me, meaning Im past my prime and dont have the energy to write my next book. My 2017 Paradigm? This is the perfect moment for me to make a difference.

5. What Are My Personal Values? What are your core beliefs? This question is not aspirational but rather gives you a chance to write down your kay values in a more conscious way ~ and allows them to guide your process of setting annual goals. For example, kindness, contribution, integrity, fun.

6. What Roles Do I Play in My Life? Make a list of the roles you play in life ~ mother, manager, parent, author, etc. Most importantly include one role about taking care of you and your growth. I call mine Jinnys Coach. This one is essential because the rest of your roles are about taking care of others, and I find having this role ensures that I set goals for filling my own well so I do a better job with my other roles.

7. Which Role Is My Major Focus? Look through your list of roles and ask yourself, In which role do I want a breakthrough ~ or Which role, if my performance improved, would make 2017 my best year yet? You know the answer ~ this one is easy. For 2017 mine is Writer because Im going to write my new book.

8. What Are My Goals for Each Role? Make a fresh list of your Roles, leaving space between each for capturing the goals. Make your goals specific and measurable. For example, instead of Get fit, your goal is Exercise 5 times a week and weigh 150 pounds.

9. What Are My Top Ten Goals? You may have close to 20 goals or more at this point. However, we cant manage more than 10 top priorities in the next twelve months. Review the goals you set in the last question and choose those that matter most to you, the ones you know will make 2017 your best year yet ~ for real as our 5-year-old granddaughter loves to say.

10. How Can I Make Sure I Achieve My Top Ten Goals? Having taken the 10 steps by answering these questions, you know whats most important to you and what you can do to demonstrate more of who you are. Answer this question to decide how youre going to make your plan come alive. The best answers to this question are Be accountable to someone else and Keep score.

You can do both by making your plan online , where you can enter your answers to these questions and then track your progress on a monthly and weekly basis. I highly recommend this program. And now there is a new terrific app for the iPhone that supports you to track your results all year long.

Heres the podcast with John OLeary. I promise this will give you a clear path to cut your way out of the fog. Click here to listen to this amazing conversation!
