#AlohaHuffPost Roundup: It's Turtle Time

It's a "honu" world.

When sitting on a beach in Hawaii, there’s always a chance that you’ll spot a little green head bobbing in and out of the waves. And if you’re lucky enough to find one, it feels as special as seeing a shooting star for the first time.

That’s why we decided to feature the Aloha State’s beloved green sea turtle in this week’s #AlohaHuffPost  roundup.

Known as “honu” in Hawaii, these gentle giants can grow to be more than 200 pounds and are found throughout the islands, swimming near shore or lounging lazily under the sun.

Many of our readers have had some very close encounters with honu and, as their pictures reveal, they’re just as majestic as you’d imagine. But if you ever see one in real life, keep your distance. They’re still considered an endangered species in Hawaii and it’s illegal to touch them.

Below, experience the magic of the honu without ever having to leave your screen.
