Alyssa Milano Calls Trump's Red MAGA Hats 'The New White Hood'

The actress and activist was responding to a viral video of a Covington Catholic High School student at the Indigenous Peoples' March over the weekend.

Alyssa Milano compared the bright red “Make America Great Again” hats worn by supporters of President Donald Trump to the white hoods worn by members of the Ku Klux Klan.

On Sunday, the actress and activist tweeted: “The red MAGA hat is the new white hood. Without white boys being able to empathize with other people, humanity will continue to destroy itself.”

Milano’s tweet comes amid a whirlwind of controversy surrounding a viral video of a high school student staring down a Native American Vietnam War veteran during Friday’s Indigenous Peoples’ March  in Washington, D.C.

The student, Nick Sandmann of Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky, was filmed smiling and standing inches away from Nathan Phillips’ face while his peers jeered  at the vet, who was performing an American Indian Movement song in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Sandmann and many other teens in the video were wearing “Make America Great Again” hats.

“Let’s not forget this entire event happened because a group of boys went on a school-sanctioned trip to protest against a woman’s right to her own body and reproductive healthcare,” Milano tweeted Monday . “It is not debatable that bigotry was at play from the start.”

Milano’s tweet about MAGA hats and white hoods a comparison that others have made, including the rapper Pusha T met with a range of responses. Many conservatives lambasted her for the remark, while many on the left supported it:
