Recently I’ve been involved in a lot of big decision kind of conversations.

These conversations have been with clients, family and friends - all who are feeling totally overwhelmed as they find themselves at a fork in the road, deciding which path to take

Career...love...life - the details are different....

Moving to a new town - entering a new, unfamiliar, yet exciting phase.
Acting on big dreams - embracing themselves while also letting go of a love.
Taking a relationship to the next level - navigating difficult compromises.

But the theme is the same...

Fear of making the “wrong” decision.

That fear can be paralyzing - stopping us in our tracks. Leading us to put the things that we want on hold. We start second guessing and self doubting.

It’s a vicious cycle happening in our mind.

Most recently I’ve felt that fear as I launch a new online program, local “make it happen meetings” AND a new blogging site.  I’m entering new territory, and I’m constantly trying to make the “right” decisions. It can feel exhausting - working hard to avoid the “wrong” thing.

But guess what?! It’s impossible to know if a decision is “right” or “wrong” until we’re on the other side - until we’ve made it and it’s played out. We have to first experience the consequences and then - only then - can we determine if it was “right” or “wrong.”

Ugh! Super annoying!!! BUT that leaves us with only one option - ACTION.

All that any of us can do is make the best possible decision with the information we have at the time. Sure, it feels scary and even when we do what feels right, there is still the very real possibility to screw up.

It happens. It’s happened to me on several occasions and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend some time beating myself up afterwards.

But luckily, I have an amazing support system who helps me get back up and dust myself off. And I have an amazing hubby who is an expert action taker - he helps me put it into perspective and try again.  I also know when it’s time to work with a coach to help me regroup and move forward. It’s been a process, but I’ve learned how to be a consistent (and mostly confident) action taker. My amazing baby boy and my successful coaching business are my proof.

One great way to increase your action taking/decision making confidence is to acknowledge the decisions that you do make every single day. Do you decide to get out of bed? Brush your teeth? Shower? Get dressed? Eat?

These are choices that you make daily - truth is there are hundreds of decisions that you make with ease.

And even the choices you make daily, I’m betting that there have been times that they didn’t play out the way you intended. Maybe you decided to take a shortcut to work only to get stuck by a train or tied up in a detour. Maybe you decided to try a new recipe that turned out terribly.  Maybe you decided to buy some stocks only to have them tank.

If you’re reading this, you survived each of those decisions and many many more.

You’ve got this. You can do it - the action is what matters. That is what propels you forward.

The fear will be there - decide to act anyway.

Here’s to feeling the fear and doing it anyway!
