5 Things To Do With Avocados Besides Make Guacamole

The Food You Should Be Wearing On Your Face
|

Whenever we find avocados rolling around in our refrigerator bins, we can't help but do a little dance. (Guacamole , anyone?) The green fruit is rich in vitamins, protein, copper, fiber and monounsaturated fats that does the body good. From lowering cholesterol to strengthening eye health to improving digestion, avocados are an amazing superfood . But did you know that there are also beauty benefits to reap from avocados?

You can mash its fleshy insides into a homemade recipe for healthier hair and skin in no time. Yum! Here are five ways to incorporate avocados into your beauty regimen.

Moisturize skin. The natural oils in an avocado can penetrate deep into the skin, helping to soften and hydrate dry and flaky patches. Simply spread it across your body, leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, shower or bathe in lukewarm water and pat dry.

Treat sunburns. It's all fun and games at the beach until you wake up the next morning with a nasty sunburn . Ease the pain and prevent chafing by applying avocados directly to the spot.

Reduce wrinkles. We envy Cate Blanchett's virtually flawless complexion , but our budget doesn't allow us to stock up on her skincare fave, SK-II . However, we certainly can afford to spend $2 on a Haas avocado to whip up an antioxidant and amino acid-rich mask that will target fine lines, crow's feet and other signs of aging.

Soothe and nourish dry facial skin. You've got to be extra careful these days and read the ingredients labels on beauty products. Steer clear of all the junk with a DIY facial mask made out of avocado , raw honey and yogurt to slough away dead skin cells and restore a more youthful glow to your face.

Repair damaged and parched hair. A brilliant spin on this do-it-yourself facial is an avocado, olive oil and egg hair mask. Sure, it's pretty sticky, but you won't regret slathering it on when you end up with super smooth and luminous strands.

Cheers to better skin and hair!
