#BeforeYouWatch Helps Bring Unity In Laquan McDonald Tragedy

Encouraging messages for black people on social media amid the release of the video of Laquan McDonald's killing.

Since  video of the tragic killing of black 17-year-old Laquan McDonald  of Chicago by a white police officer was released, people on social media have come together using the hashtag #beforeyouwatch.

The Black Youth Project 100 , an activist member-based organization of black 18-35-year-olds, has uploaded video love letters to black people on its Facebook page  using the hashtag in an effort to encourage strength following the graphic video's release.

In one video uploaded on Tuesday, Charlene Carruthers, the national director of BYP 100 , expressed support for McDonald's family.

"We are here to support in whatever way we can," she said.

Many others have used the hashtag to share their own words of encouragement and for motivation to keep fighting for justice.

Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in McDonald's killing earlier this week.
