Black Student Spaces Vandalized At Mizzou And Bowie State University

This is unacceptable.

A sign for the Black Cultural Center at the University of Missouri was vandalized early Thursday morning in what might turn out to be one of the latest reactionary responses after the resignation of the college president and chancellor earlier this week.

According to the Los Angeles Times , the sign for the Gaines/Oldham Black Cultural Center was defaced with spray-paint that covered the word "Black." The vandalism occurred hours after students staged a protest at the building against racial threats directed at black students. University of Missouri police are reviewing the video surveillance from the location.

Mizzou's Legion of Black Collegians , one of the University's student organizations, tweeted a picture of the vandalized sign with a message of solidarity. "We're not afraid. You clearly are. Stay strong Mizzou," the tweet reads.

Also on Thursday morning, students at the Bowie State University, a historically black institution in Maryland, discovered swastikas spray-painted on a building commemorating Martin Luther King Jr.

Although the graffiti has since been removed, several students captured the Nazi symbol and posted pictures of the defaced building on social media.

Earlier this week, students of color were issued anonymous death threats at both the University of Missouri and Howard University .
