Bob Dylan has been successfully filling our eardrums with poetic lyrics and solid music since his self-titled debut album was released in 1962. Apparently, 54 years of influencing the American music scene and poetic fabric has not gone unnoticed by the Swedish Academy.

The Minnesota native, who began his career crooning in coffee houses, was honored by the Academy for:

having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.

The 75 year old poet and musician can add one of the worlds most prestigious awards to an already stuffed trophy case. Besides the awards, Dylan has sold over 100 million albums. He has also penned six books of art, and had numerous pieces featured in prominent galleries. The consummate performer, he and his band have played more than 2,500 shows.
