Body Found In California River Identified As Missing College Student

Were all distraught, a friend said of the discovery.

A body found in a California river has been positively identified as Alycia “Aly” Yeoman, a Yuba College student who has not been seen since March.

According to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, the medical examiner’s office used dental records to confirm Yeoman’s identity.

The body was found by an angler in Feather River on Sunday afternoon. The location of the discovery is not far from the orchard where Yeoman’s car and phone were found, police said.

“The cause and manner of death is still under investigation,” Sutter County Under Sheriff Jeffery L. Pierce said in a press release . “There is no further information at this time.”

The 20-year-old was last seen leaving a Yuba City residence on March 30. Yeoman, who worked at both Starbucks and McDonald’s, was reported missing after she failed to show up for shifts at either establishment.

Workers at a Sutter County orchard spotted Yeoman’s green 1998 Toyota Tacoma truck stuck in the mud on March 31 and reported it to police on April 3. A single pair of footprints led away from the vehicle, Sacramento’s KCRA News reported .

Police on April 3 learned someone had found Yeoman’s phone not far from where her vehicle was discovered and took it to a Yuba City cell phone store, authorities said.

After learning of the positive identification of Yeoman, her friend, Matthew Stillwell, told The Sacramento Bee that everyone is trying to come to terms with her death.

“We’re all distraught here,” Stillwell said.

A Facebook page that was set up to help find Yeoman has been renamed “Justice for Aly Yeoman .”

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office at 530-822-7307 or the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
