Bowen Yang And Chappell Roan Put Feud Rumors To Rest By Hugging It Out On SNL

Critics went after Yang for parodying Roans mental health comments but it doesnt look like theres any bad blood between these two.

Pop singer Chappell Roan and actor-comedian Bowen Yang seemed eager to quash rumors of a feud following Roans Saturday Night Live  appearance as a musical guest this weekend.

Roan and Yang held hands as host John Mulaney thanked the shows guests including Vice President Kamala Harris and said goodnight to viewers. As the credits rolled, the two could be seen sharing a hug.

Given that the exchange took place so late in the show, it was easy to overlook it. Fans of both performers, however, were quick to interpret it as televised dtente

In September, Yang was hit with a flurry of criticism following an SNL segment in which he appeared as Moo Deng the pygmy hippopotamus who became an internet sensation this fall and parodied recent comments made by Roan with regard to protecting her mental health amid her rise to fame.

Calling himself your favorite hippos favorite hippo, Yang quipped: Reminder, women owe you nothing. When I am in my enclosure, tripping over stuff, biting my trainers knee, I am at work. That is the project. Do not yell my name or expect a photo just because I am your parasocial bestie or because you appreciate my talent.

The joke was a clear allusion to Roan, who has been described in the media as your favorite artists favorite artist. In August, the Good Luck, Babe! singer spoke out against the predatory behavior shed received from some of her fans in a lengthy note on social media in which she proclaimed: When Im on stage, when Im performing, when Im in drag, when Im at a work event, when Im doing press...I am at work.

A day after the SNL segment aired, Yang responded to the backlash  in an Instagram Story.

If my personal stance and the piece arent absolutely clear in terms of supporting her then there it is I guess, he wrote. everything she has ever asked for has been reasonable and even then we can connect it to another story about boundaries or whatever.

Interestingly, the SNL debacle came just weeks after Yang expressed his admiration for Roan, whose smash 2023 album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess , is widely expected to nab numerous Grammy Award nominations later this week.

So I fucking love you, he told Roan while in conversation for the Aug. 19 issue of Interview magazine. I know we dont know each other that well, but Im following you for the rest of time. Youre incredible. Enjoy it.
