Bungling Burglar Gets Wedged In Second-Story Window

A burglar who got himself stuck in a second-story bathroom window during an attempted break-in has been jailed.

Police in Radcliffe, near Manchester in northern England, arrived on the scene in December  to find Sean Crawshaw suspended 15 feet above the ground. 

The 47-year-old’s head was firmly wedged inside the small window, his knees were placed on the sill and his legs were dangling below:

Police called fire crews, which took about 20 minutes to extricate  Crawshaw from his predicament, the Manchester Evening News reports. He injured his ear as he was being set free.

Crawshaw was charged with burglary with intent. He pleaded guilty at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester on Jan. 16. A judge sentenced him to two years and five months in jail. 

Greater Manchester Police released photographs of the incident on Thursday. “It was nice of him to hang around ,” GMP sergeant Richard Garland told the BBC. “He was actually cautioned as he was in mid-air.”

Garland did, however, recognize the seriousness of the crime.

“We did all have a chuckle about it later but the homeowner was actually pretty shaken up about it all,” he said. “It’s not nice having someone burgle your home and then finding them still there.”
