I recently spoke to David James (Linkedin Profile ), who owns DCA Digital. I asked him a number of questions about how he started his business with the challenges involved and plans for the future.

What is the name of your business?

What does your business do?

My business is a digital company that improves search engine rankings for a number of businesses.

Did you do anything before you started the business?

I had a few different jobs in different industries. I worked at a music label and also in sales, among other things.

What gave you the idea to start the business?

I always wanted to start my own business, and wanted to create something that was profitable and sustainable. I did some investigation and SEO checked all the boxes. I find SEO really interesting, which is a huge bonus, and I love helping other people, so its really rewarding when I help businesses achieve good results on Google .

What has been your biggest business challenge?

The SEO industry is quite saturated and unfortunately there are a lot of scammers out there. Many businesses have previously had bad experiences, so convincing them that SEO, done properly, is a vital ingredient towards a successful online business. Fortunately, I have been able to explain things and convince businesses of my credentials, which has helped me secure clients.

Was there anything that was harder or easier than expected?

SEO can be very challenging as there isnt really any guide or handbook. Google are fairly secretive about their algorithm, so its a constant learning curve. Fortunately, there is a huge SEO community online where people learn from each other and form friendships with other people in the industry. There is a lot of knowledge available online and you are always able to test things out.

What are your business' plans for 2017?

My main plan is just to help more businesses grow their online presence.
