Astronaut Buzz Aldrin endorsed Donald Trump on Wednesday, prompting critics to launch several barbs at the second man to walk on the moon.

Some chided Aldrin, 94, for ignoring the potential damage to womens reproductive rights in a second Trump presidency.

I have lost all respect I had for you, one person wrote on X. You should talk to the women in your life more.

Others reminded him he was supporting a man who inspired a siege to overturn the 2020 election.

Used to respect you tons, but no longer, a commenter offered. Youre advocating support for an insurrectionist traitor.

In a long message shared on X, formerly Twitter, Aldrin wrote that Trump showed a strong commitment to space exploration when he was president. (In 2019 Aldrin told then-President Trump of his disappointment in NASA  over the previous 10 to 15 years.) Aldrin also praised Trump ally Elon Musk for furthering private travel.

Noting that the presidency requires sober analysis of frightening scenarios, and the instinct to lead with resolve, Aldrin concluded, I believe we are best served by voting for @realDonaldTrump. I wholeheartedly endorse him for President of the United States.

The Republican nominee also has the likes of Dennis Quaid, Mel Gibson, Kanye, Brett Favre and Paula Deen in his corner.

But the formal nod from Aldrin set off supporters in Kamala Harris orbit.

Some pointed out that conservatives, like the ones voting for the former president, are perhaps more likely to be moon-landing deniers.

Aldrin once punched a harassing truther in a 2002 incident as one X user reminded him.
