Move Over Cat Cafes, This Cat Pub Is Taking Over

"We certainly wouldn't recommend drinkers sharing their favorite tipple with the cats."

It’s the purr-fect place to unwind with a pint of beer - so long as you like cats.

That’s because the Bag ‘O’ Nails in Bristol, England, doesn’t just have one resident kitty.

No, this old-fashioned British drinking den has an astonishing 15 furry felines patrolling its premises while receiving cuddles from adoring customers.

Self-confessed “cat-man” landlord Luke Daniels started off with just two of the animals, according to the Western Daily Press .

But things slowly snowballed, with, at one point, some 24 cats -- all born inside the building -- calling the pub home.

One of the cute critters was even welcomed into the world inside an empty potato chip bag during a quiz night.

The number has now scaled back as “that was too much,” said Daniels.

But the cats -- ranging from tabbies to tortoise shells and black and whites -- are still a major draw for drinkers, who have posted dozens of images of themselves enjoying a pint and a purr at the venue on Instagram.

“The reaction is mostly positive,” the Bristol Post reports him as saying.

“Occasionally you might have some people walking in and leaving and some might be allergic to cats, but people love it,” he added.

But not everyone is happy with the business, however.

A spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) told the Telegraph that the animals’ welfare must be considered.

"We certainly wouldn't recommend drinkers sharing their favorite tipple with the cats, as alcohol is a poison which can cause them serious harm and suffering,” the spokesperson reportedly said.

Daniels revealed that the cats were named mostly after Roman emperors because of their “strong names,” reports the Western Daily Press .

The clowder includes Absinthe, Salvador, Philomena Hercules, Hadassah, Lucifer, Boris, Rasputin, Cirrus and Stratus, Wolfgang and Therese.
