Laughing has a tendency to be therapeutic. Laughing combined with glamour might be the trick to actual healing.

That's where celebrity stylist Mary Alice Stephenson comes in. She and her team of stylists invited 50 wounded veterans and their caregiver to be made over in the days preceding the Bob Woodruff Foundation celebrated its Fifth Annual "Stand-Up For Heroes" night in New York, a night of entertainment with performances from Jon Stewart, Ricky Gervais, Bruce Springsteen and others.

Every one of the veterans and caregivers who were invited for makeovers showed up to get red-carpet ready.

"The power that fashion has to make people feel their best is magnificent and magical," Stephenson told the Huffington Post. "It's a powerful tool to regenerate self esteem, whether it's a big thing, or just making the inside glow match the outside.

For some it was emotional, for others it was transformative. For everyone, it was deserved.

"There are a lot of different ways we can serve our country. We can serve those who have protected our country and protected our rights, and this is my way of saluting them and saying thank you to them, Stephenson said.

All the clothes were donated by Sears. Hair was done by L'Oreal and makeup was done by Dior.
