With the Season 14 premiere of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation ," the lives of Morgan Brody and Captain Brass' daughter, Ellie, were hanging in the balance. Both women were being held captive by the Dante's Inferno killer. And while he was leaving cryptic clues, it was taking painfully long for the team to put them together.

Luckily, the girls were able to orchestrate their own escape. But the killer, Matthew, caught up with them. This was moments after Matthew's brother gave him up, but could the team get there in time? Ellie convinced Morgan to go back inside, telling her she was sure there was a third victim. When Morgan came out, she was attacked by Matthew. Ellie managed to shoot Matthew, saving Morgan, but then the unthinkable happened.

Ellie turned the gun on Morgan and shot her. When the authorities arrived, she said that Matthew had shot Morgan before killing himself. The team did some more digging when her story didn't match up with the evidence, and discovered that Ellie and Matthew had an existing relationship.

Captain Brass discovered the truth when he went to check in on Ellie and his ex-wife, Nancy. He found Nancy dead on the ground at Ellie's hands.

By way of excuse, all Ellie said was, "Matthew and Jake had their daddy issues, and thanks to you, so do I.

Zap2It's Andrea Reiher was shocked by the twist. "While we did not see Ellie Brass coming as the Dante's Inferno killer, we certainly can get on board with her being unhinged and having serious daddy issues ," she wrote. "That's been a theme on the show for nearly its entire run.

TVLine's Megan Masters thought it was a shocking twist, too. The majority of TV Line readers gave the premiere an "A" rating . Morgan survived her ordeal, while Ellie was hauled off in handcuffs.

The team must pick up the pieces on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," airing Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
