2 Dead In Shooting At Texas A&M University-Commerce Campus Residence Hall

Classes have been canceled after three people were shot. One of the victims is a 2-year-old child.

Two women are dead and a 2-year-old child has been hospitalized following a shooting at the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus on Monday, authorities said.

The identities of the gunshot victims and their relationships with the school have not been released by authorities yet. Campus police Chief Bryan Vaughn said at a late-afternoon press conference that the child is in stable condition.

Authorities also did not provide any additional information about the incident and declined to take reporters’ questions.

A precautionary shelter in place for students and faculty was lifted around 1:30 p.m. CST, though classes remain canceled for the day and the evening as a police investigation continues, the university said in a statement .

The shooting took place on campus at Pride Rock Residence Hall, the school said. Pride Rock Residence Hall houses both male and female first-year students, according to the school’s website .

The Commerce campus is located roughly 220 miles north of Texas A&M’s main campus in College Station and 65 miles northeast of Dallas.
