Heaven, have mercy! Please mellow this drama.

As America says goodbye to Obama,

2016 has grabbed us by the entrails.

None of us can make heads or tails

Of the dichotomy of principle that seems to reside

In both major parties, and the ever-growing divide

Within our countrys electorate.

Though disagreements are sharp and electric,

We try to be calm - but we all hold some fear:

The right, of status quo; the left, of four years

Of erosion of rights.

The team youre constructing is described as knife fight.

As you build your foundation, and we redirect our hearts,

Your success will depend on the manner in which you start.

Its important you know white nationalists dont represent

Most of the silent majority that showed up and sent

You to Washington to drain the swamp

That cant be devoured in one large chomp.

Seat after seat will need to be replaced,

And the change we seek will come at a slow pace.

But the left and the right, on this we agree:

The paramount thing were eager to see

Is that you will truly be a man of the people.

Lead with love in your heart. Disregard sheeple

Of all stripes, leanings, sways, and ideas.

Strive to do good, be good, and lead us.

And please remember, as you do, this one key thing:

We have all entrusted you with our own well-being.

Keep this in mind every day, every action.

If you do whats right - it will float, then gain traction.

And the House and the Senate, the Courts and the masses

Will exhale in relief that the panic has passed us.

But if your earliest tone is division and hate,

By the time you begin to govern, it will already be too late.

Rhetoric aside, youre all of ours now.

So, please, Mr. President, make all of us proud.
