Dick Van Dyke Celebrates 90th Birthday With 'Mary Poppins' Flash Mob

Screen legend Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 90th birthday over the weekend by singing songs from "Mary Poppins" with a giant flash mob in California. Is there really any better way to ring in your tenth decade on this earth? (We think not.)

The actor, who starred as Bert in the Disney classic alongside Julie Andrews, was at The Grove when a flash mob (made up of dancers dressed as chimney sweeps, like Bert) began performing by the fountain in the mall's lower level. They sang and danced to Bert's signature songs, such as "Step in Time," Jolly Holiday" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." 

The actor cheered and sang along as he watched the action from a balcony. He later joined the group on the ground to sing "Let's Go Fly a Kite." (You can watch highlights from the celebration in the video above.)

The Huffington Post had the pleasure of speaking with Van Dyke ahead of his big day to talk about "Mary Poppins" and getting older. 

"We all knew every day on the set when we were making 'Mary Poppins' that we were creating something special. With Walt, Julie, the Sherman Brothers' score ... when I saw the finished movie, I couldn't believe it!," he said. 

When asked about his thoughts on turning 90, he admitted that he feels "better than I thought I would," adding, "I'm having the time of my life."
