Donald Trump And Hillary Clinton Already Sound Like They're Running Against Each Other

The candidates attacked each other directly on Super Tuesday.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton each gave speeches on Super Tuesday that indicated they may be looking ahead to a matchup in the general election.

Trump and Clinton each won seven states on Tuesday have large leads in the nominating contests of their respective parties.

Speaking from a rally in Miami, Clinton questioned some of Trump's campaign rhetoric.

"We know we've got work to do, but that work is not to make America great again. America never stopped being great. We have to make America whole, we have to fill in, fill in what's been hollowed out," she said.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that the Clinton campaign already has a strategy in place should Trump be up against her in the general election: to portray him as a bigoted misogynist who lacks the temperament to be president.

Trump responded to Clinton's comments at his own Super Tuesday press conference, saying he didn't understand what she was talking about.

"She wants to make America whole again, and I'm trying to figure out what is that all about," Trump said. "'Make America great again' is going to be much better than making America whole again."

Trump argued that Clinton has had ample opportunity during her long career in public service to fix the problems she sees in the U.S.

"I watched Hillary's speech and she's talking about, 'Wages have been poor, and everything's poor, and everything's doing badly, but we're going to make it.' She's been there for so long," he said. "I mean, if she hasn't straightened it out by now, she's not going to straighten it out in the next four years. It's just going to become worse and worse."

Trump also argued he is a "unifier" and suggested Clinton would be disqualified from the race because she used a private email server while serving as secretary of state.

"Once we get all of this finished, I'm going to go after one person, and that's Hillary Clinton, on the assumption she's allowed to run, which is a big assumption," Trump said, referring to an investigation into the security of that email server.

Editor's note: Donald Trump is a serial liarrampant xenophoberacistmisogynist,  birther  and bully  who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims -- 1.6 billion members of an entire religion -- from entering the U.S.
