Trump Says Jokes About Periods Would Be 'Inappropriate'

But he's apparently still cool with calling women "bimbos."

Donald Trump defended his comment about Fox News ’ Megyn Kelly “spewing blood,” telling TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie  on Monday that it “wasn’t meant to be much of an insult.”

Trump incited backlash  after he said of Kelly on Friday, "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her -- wherever,” referencing the host’s demeanor as she grilled him during the first GOP presidential debate.

Some critics characterized the remark as a disparaging comment about her menstrual cycle, but he says that’s not true, and that by “wherever” he meant Kelly’s nose or ears.

“If I finished it, I was going to say ears or nose, because that's just a common statement -- ‘blood is pouring out of your ears,’” he told Guthrie in a phone interview. He also said that if he had made a joke about Kelly’s period, “it would be inappropriate.”

Guthrie pointed out that Trump apparently did not find it inappropriate to retweet a comment about Kelly being a “bimbo.”
