The Onion Totally Called The Rise Of Donald Trump 4 Years Ago

Now that the Republican Party has settled on Donald Trump  as its presumptive presidential nominee, some in the media  are touting their early positive predictions about his candidacy. But no one called the 2016 campaign as early as The Onion.

The satirical website published this article immediately following President Barack Obama 's re-election in 2012: "After Obama Victory, Shrieking White-Hot Sphere Of Pure Rage Early GOP Front-Runner For 2016 ."

The video post  showed a fake cable news anchor and a fake reporter discussing how this gigantic ball of plasma had landed on Earth, sucking up the GOP in its gravity a not entirely inaccurate description of the events that led Trump to his hostile takeover of the Party of Lincoln.

“This screaming orb just might be the only one who really taps into the deep-seated seething fury felt by so many Republicans right now,” says the reporter.

“Mitt Romney just didn’t get me fired up enough to vote. But that sphere of anger really speaks to me,” a fake voter chimes in.

It’s not the first time the satirical news outlet has eerily predicted the future.

In March 2003, soon after the U.S. invaded Iraq, The Onion said the war would be a colossal disaster that would destabilize the Middle East and fuel the rise of anti-Western forces willing to die for a fundamentalist cause. In other words, here comes the Islamic State.
