Watch These Dutch Citizens Turn Frozen Streets Into Skating Rinks

No cars? No problem.

Parts of the Netherlands have turned into a winter wonderland, tempting locals to skate on ice-covered roads.

Multiple YouTube videos uploaded on Tuesday show adults and children taking to the streets, spinning, gliding and sometimes stumbling.

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute warned motorists in the country's northeast  to stay off the roads, but later downgraded its code red alert to orange as sleet gave way to large amounts of slippery ice on Tuesday morning.

Ice skating is especially popular in the Netherlands, perhaps best demonstrated by Dutch skaters' crushing performances at the 2014 Winter Olympics  in Sochi, Russia.

Dutch athletes took home 24 out of 36 possible medals in speedskating events during the Sochi Games -- 23 in long-track speedskating and one in short-track.

They also won seven speedskating medals at the 2010 Vancouver Games, and nine at the 2006 Turin Games.
