Emma Watson has been promoting her new film “Beauty And The Beast ” all over the world, so it’s safe to assume her fans are probably more excited than ever.

Well, in an exclusive cover story with Vanity Fair , Watson reveals that she no longer takes selfies with her fans these days. Her reasoning? It’s a matter of safety and privacy.

For me, it’s the difference between being able to have a life and not. If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within two seconds they’ve created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 meters. They can see what I’m wearing and who I’m with. I just can’t give that tracking data.

And to prove she still cares about her fans, Watson offers an autograph or time to chat, in lieu of a selfie. She tells them, “I will sit here and answer every single Harry Potter fandom question you have but I just can’t do a picture.” That doesn’t sound like a bad deal to us! “I have to carefully pick and choose my moment to interact,” she explained.

While several other celebrities seem to happily pose with their fans on social media, Watson points out that Potterheads are on a whole other level. “I don’t know how to explain it, but the Harry Potter phenomenon steps into a different zone. It crosses into obsession. A big part of me coming to terms with it was accepting that this is not your average circumstances.”

Watson’s concern for privacy also extends to her dating life. She has a boyfriend, but refuses to address any aspects of her relationship in interviews. “I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home. You can’t have it both ways.” She definitely makes a valid point and also explains that dating in Hollywood can become messy, especially when you’re in the middle of the media frenzy involved in film promotion.

I’ve noticed, in Hollywood, who you’re dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus. I would hate anyone that I were with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act.
