Eric Holder: To Begin Healing, We Must See An End To 'Acts Of Violence' In Ferguson

Attorney General Eric Holder penned an op-ed to the people of Ferguson, promising the "full resources of the Department of Justice" to investigate the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teen who was fatally shot by a police officer earlier this month.

The op-ed, published Tuesday in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch , Holder acknowledged the "demand for answers" over Brown's death and said he hoped the DOJ investigation would bring a "measure of calm to the tensions in Ferguson."

"In order to begin the healing process, however, we must first see an end to the acts of violence in the streets of Ferguson," Holder wrote. "Although these acts have been committed by a very small minority and, in many cases, by individuals from outside Ferguson they seriously undermine, rather than advance, the cause of justice. And they interrupt the deeper conversation that the legitimate demonstrators are trying to advance."

President Barack Obama announced Monday he was sending Holder to Ferguson after days of unrest, with protesters and police clashing.
