Selling Your Home? Don't Forget St. Joseph

A bit of background first: my name is Fiona Finn and Ive been a real estate broker-agent for almost twenty years. The reason I became a Realtor was my belief that the earning potential was unlimited. This type of thinking runs rampant among many who enter this profession. I believed I could do anything I put my mind to and for a while, I did. Truthfully, I created a life for myself and my family that included much of the wealth and abundance I desired. But if Im to be ridiculously honest, money didnt buy my happiness. It wasnt until the housing market collapsed and an untimely cancer diagnosis that I also learned a life of perpetual deprivation didnt bring me much joy either.

The fact is that real estate is anything but an easy and glamorous career but its what I knew, and what I was good at, so I chose to re-enter this harrowing field after a few years of healing. However this time it wasnt all about the money. As money, in and of itself, didnt bring me much fulfillment. Quickly, I learned the real estate industry hadnt changed much in my health hiatus. What had changed was me. Id changed during the hard times. How? My faith in God was strengthened. You see, you dont have a near brush with death and not change in some way. Id become more spiritual, although not necessarily more religious.

Faith doesnt cost a thing but this kit will set you back around $10.00.

Most certainly, I wanted more meaning from both my work life and life- life. At first, I wanted to change the world around me but that was too great a feat. So I settled on changing myself, my thoughts, and the way that I run my business. God, family, then business became my new motto, encapsulating my beliefs and guiding me as I merged my personal and professional power together. First things first, I needed a new team of professionals, those who shared the same values and ideals as I. In doing this, I found an unexpected yet reliable teammate- St. Joseph, the patron saint of selling homes. When the housing bubble burst in 2008, my local board, the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and the beach started carrying and selling St. Joseph kits to help sell property. And in doing so, they somehow legitimized this age old tradition into something more than just an old wives tale.

Gently bury St. Joseph upside down facing the street, near a For Sale sign.

Truly, Im not sure where the idea of planting a small statue of Saint Joseph, in ones yard in the hopes of a quick sale came from. Perhaps it started with a prayer for help that was answered. And then rumors spread, as did the testimonials of others whod discovered success in selling. No matter, how this urban legend began, it still persists making it easy for me to gift the kit to each of my sellers. With little resistance, most utilize the gift asking this Realtor who art in Heaven, for his intercession in selling.

Nonetheless, even with help from above, homeowners have to do all the right things, like choosing the right agent, pricing the property fairly, updating and deep cleaning their homes prior to entering the market place. Its not magic, some homes do not sell, despite the fact that I sell almost ninety-five percent of all homes I list. It all comes down to timing and Im a profound believer that timing is everything. For everything in life, including the sale of your property usually works out exactly as it is supposed to. Whether your currently trying to sale your home or preparing to sell, try to let go of the stress and worry of selling, by adding St. Josephs strength. Lastly, I realize there will be naysayers who think this all seems far fetched. And thats okay because faith is invisible. But remember faith has the ability to make the impossible, possible!
