Fat Joe Asks Hakeem Jeffries Why Politicians Can't Seem To Pass The Torch

The rapper makes a strong case for term limits in a new interview with the House minority leader.

Rapper Fat Joe had some serious questions about age and politics while speaking to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y,) in a new interview for his Starz show, Fat Joe Talks.

In a preview of Fridays episode, the All the Way Up hitmaker asked the top House Democrat why its so hard for politicians to pass the torch to the next generation of leaders.

It seems, in politics, they just never want to leave, they never want to step off, Joe said.

Theres gotta be some young brothers and sisters talking about, Yo, weve got ideas. Will there ever be an age in politics when its like, Yo, you did 30 years max out? the rapper asked. Theres no where else in the world where you get a job forever. Aint nothing you can do about it.

The House minority leader agreed, telling Joe how he supports finding a way to curb Supreme Court justices from conducting themselves as if theyre above the law.

Jeffries added how abuse of power was just one of the reasons he and other politicians believe Supreme Court justices also need term limits.

Eighteen years, the New York congressman proposed, noting how the president only gets eight.

Still, a lot of damage can be done over 18 years, the hip-hop star replied.

Jeffries has supported imposing term limits on the nations highest court for some time now. In a July post on X,  Jeffries called the Supreme Court out of control and said 18 years is more than enough time to be in power.

Along with bouncing around ideas about Supreme Court reform, Joe and Jeffries discussed the influence of hip-hop, trailblazing New York congresswoman Shirley Chisholm and the war in Gaza.

You can catch the full conversation when the episode drops Friday on Starz.
