"Game of Thrones " could soon get a younger sibling.

George R.R. Martin, the writer of the Song of Ice and Fire book series upon which HBO's hit series is based, announced on his blog LiveJournal  this weekend that Cinemax is developing his werewolf novella Skin Trade into a TV show.

Skin Trade was originally published in 1988 in the fantasy anthology Night Visions 5  along with stories by Stephen King and Dan Simmons. Cinemax says it tells the story of "a collections agent who happens to be a werewolf and his friend, a private investigator, discover a dark secret behind a series of grisly murders in their decaying industrial city."

Cinemax -- which is owned by HBO -- has thus far ordered only a pilot script, to be written by "Once Upon a Time" veteran Kalinda Vazquez . So it's not a given that "Skin Trade" will actually make it on the air. But "Game of Thrones" is such a massive success that no one would be surprised if it did.

Martin himself says he will not be involved in the writing of the show. He has other things to focus on: three more TV shows  and, crucially, the sixth installment of the Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter.

"While I would have loved to write the script and run the show myself, that was never really in the cards," he writes . "I have this book to finish. You know the one."

Oh we do, George. We really do.
