George R.R. Martin is one of the most well-known authors around right now, and while he appreciates all the success he's received, he still gets a little freaked out by the fame.

"I'm now at the stage of my career where, pretty much anything I care to put down, I think I'll get some reply, which is a blessing and a curse," the author told the crowd during his talk at Northwestern University on Wednesday

Martin went on to say that, unlike today's biggest young stars, he's lucky his fame came later in life.

"It's made me have a certain sympathy for the teenage assholes that are running around out there, the Justin Biebers and the Lindsay Lohans," he said. "No wonder these people are crazy."

Another "teenage asshole" that comes to mind after hearing Martin's comments is Joffrey Baratheon, the bratty teen king he brought to life in his books. However, crazy might be an understatement when describing the platinum blond royal. There's even a Tumblr mashup blog of The Biebs and the fictional teen king called Joffrey Bieber , but we digress.

Martin continued, "If this stuff had happened to me, if I had written a novel when I was at Northwestern when I was 19 years old and it had sold billions of copies, I wouldn’t have been able to handle that at 19. I can barely handle it at 67. It’s surreal."
