Google Launches Yet Another Way To Split The Check Instantly

But is it handier than Venmo?

Google is offering yet another easy way for you to send money via your smartphone.

The company announced Thursday that its Google Wallet smartphone app, which connects to your credit card or bank account, will soon let users send funds via text message. Pull up the app, punch in the amount you want to send and type in your friend's phone number to give them a secure link. When they access that link, they'll be able to claim the money by inputting their debit card number -- even if they're not Google Wallet users.

Previously, Google Wallet allowed you to send money to a recipient's email address, but not a phone number.

The update will be available via the Google Wallet Android and iOS apps "in the next few days."
